Coastal GasLink has been fined $346,000 for erosion and sediment control issues during the construction of its natural gas pipeline and for providing false information in inspection records. The fines were issued by B.C.'s Environmental Assessment Office (EAO), citing repeated non-compliance by the company. One fine of $340,000 was for deficiencies in erosion and sediment control measures, while another fine of $6,000 was for providing false information. The pipeline, spanning 670 kilometers in northern B.C., is 94% complete and expected to be finished by the end of the year. Since 2019, the EAO has issued over $800,000 in fines, 59 warnings, and 30 orders to Coastal GasLink.
