Avian Flu Hits Bird Paradise of Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos National Park has reported the first cases of avian flu on the remote islands, home to unique bird species that inspired Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. Three cases of the H5N1 virus were detected in visibly sick birds. The Galapagos archipelago is known for its diverse bird population, including the blue-footed booby and endemic penguins, cormorants, and albatrosses. The islands are located 1,000 kilometers from Ecuador's coast and are home to 78 species of native and endemic birds. The H5N1 bird flu outbreak is the largest ever seen, with cases now emerging year-round and infecting various animal species.
