India Dismisses Canada’s Allegations of Links to Sikh Leader’s Killing

India has rejected Allegations by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that the Indian government has links to the killing of a Canadian Sikh leader. India expelled a Canadian diplomat in response to Canada expelling an Indian diplomat. The Sikh leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, was designated as a "terrorist" by India and was gunned down outside a Sikh temple in British Columbia. Trudeau had raised the issue with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and called for cooperation in the investigation. The Indian foreign ministry dismissed the allegations, stating that Canada provides a safe haven for Sikh "extremists." The diplomatic row has also affected trade negotiations between the two countries.
