India expels Canadian diplomat as ties fray over Sikh leader’s murder

India has denied any involvement in the murder of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada and expelled a senior Canadian Diplomat in response. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau suggested Indian officials may have had a role in the assassination, which angered India. Trudeau said Canadian security agencies were actively investigating potential links between the Indian government and Nijjar's killing. The Sikhs, a religious minority in India, blame the Indian government for Nijjar's murder and are calling for a separate state. The Khalistan movement, which supports the creation of Khalistan, is banned in India.
