Authorities wall off Xinjiang village to control Uyghur movement

Authorities in China's Xinjiang region have completely walled off a Village of 13,500 Uyghur people, subjecting them to 24-hour surveillance and restricting their movement to a single gate. The enclosure of Chuluqai village is the latest attempt by authorities to surveil Uyghurs under the pretext of maintaining peace and security, despite widespread claims of state-sponsored abuses against the minority group. Similar restrictions have been reported in other villages in the region. The construction of walls around communities is designed to limit residents' freedom of movement, according to rights groups. China has faced international criticism for its treatment of Uyghurs, including allegations of genocide and crimes against humanity.
