Five months of conflict in Sudan inflict heavy toll on children in camps

Over 1,200 Sudanese refugees under the age of five have died in nine camps between May and September, mostly due to suspected measles and malnutrition. The Conflict in Sudan has overwhelmed health facilities, leading to shortages of staff and lifesaving medicine. The UN children's agency has received only a quarter of the funding it requested to help 10 million children in Sudan. Health conditions in the country are dire, with high malnutrition rates, disease outbreaks, and shortages of essential resources like water and electricity. Thousands of newborns are at risk of dying, and over 5.3 million people have been newly displaced by the conflict.
