China's capital city, Beijing, is allowing local robotaxi operators, including Baidu and startup Pony.ai, to charge fares for fully autonomous taxis with no human staff inside. This move eliminates the cost of a driver and marks a significant step towards Fully Driverless Vehicles operating throughout the city. The Yizhuang district in Beijing is the first to implement this change, and more approvals for robotaxi operations in the city are expected. Pony.ai's vice president, Ning Zhang, expressed confidence that within three years, fully driverless vehicles will be running throughout Beijing.
