Gabon: President Oligui relaunches investigations into public markets

General Brice Oligui Nguema, who recently overthrew Ali Bongo Ondimba in Gabon, has announced a commission of inquiry into public procurement to investigate fraud and embezzlement. The military in power has reactivated the task force for controlling debt and suspended actions will be resumed. Companies awarded public contracts and administrative entities are called upon to cooperate with the commission. Oligui has also called on business leaders to stop overbilling and return embezzled funds. One of Bongo's sons and six other officials have been arrested and accused of high treason and embezzlement. Gabon is known for its corruption, ranking 136th out of 180 for perception of corruption by Transparency International.
