South Africa: Zulu leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi dies aged 95

Mangosuthu Buthelezi, a prominent figure in South African politics and Zulu chief, has died at the age of 95. He established the Zulu Inkatha party during the apartheid era but later reconciled with the African National Congress (ANC) and served as Minister of Home Affairs under President Nelson Mandela. Buthelezi held opposing views on international sanctions against South Africa and believed they would harm the country's black majority. He also held the hereditary title of chief among the Zulus and founded the Inkatha Freedom Party, stepping down as its leader in 2019 after 44 years.
