Morocco earthquake leaves at least 1,000 dead and damages landmarks

A powerful Earthquake struck Morocco, killing at least 1,037 people and injuring over 1,204 others. The quake, the largest in 120 years, damaged buildings and historic landmarks in major cities, particularly in ancient cities made from stone and masonry. The full extent of the damage is still unknown as rescuers struggle to reach remote mountain villages. The famous Koutoubia Mosque in Marrakech suffered damage, and parts of the city's red walls were damaged. The earthquake was felt as far away as Portugal and Algeria. Variations in measurements indicate this is Morocco's strongest earthquake in years.
