Strong 6.8-magnitude earthquake rattles Morocco

A strong 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck Morocco, causing damage to buildings in major cities and leading to people evacuating into the streets. There is no information yet on injuries or deaths. Videos posted by Moroccans show buildings turned to rubble and parts of the red walls in Marrakech damaged. The earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 and was followed by a magnitude-4.9 aftershock. The epicenter was in the Atlas Mountains, 43.5 miles south of Marrakech. Variations in early measurements are common, but this is one of the strongest earthquakes in Morocco in years.
