Police beat, arrest opposition supporters in Ethiopia’s Tigray

Police in Ethiopia's Tigray region used batons and made arrests to prevent opposition supporters from gathering and protesting against the ruling party, the TPLF. The Tigrayan parties had called for demonstrations to criticize the TPLF's incompetence and autocratic behavior. The police cordoned off the rally location, arrested organizers, and dispersed the demonstrators with force. Several activists, including party leaders, were incarcerated, and roads leading to the city were closed. The TPLF ruled the region for 27 years until 2018 and regained power in 2022 after a peace agreement.
