U.N. says summer 2023 hottest on record: “Climate breakdown has begun”

The United Nations weather agency has declared the summer of 2023 as the Hottest on Record, with the northern hemisphere experiencing extreme heatwaves and devastating wildfires. The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) data shows that August was the hottest on record by a large margin, both on land and in global sea surface temperatures. The UK's Met Office has warned that there is a 98% likelihood that one of the next five years will be the warmest on record. The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for urgent action to combat climate change.
