Icebreaker, 2 helicopters used in perilous Antarctic rescue mission

A researcher who fell seriously ill at a remote Antarctic outpost was successfully evacuated in a daring Rescue Mission. The mission involved an emergency medical rescue team, a large icebreaker ship, and two helicopters. The man was retrieved and flown onto the icebreaker ship, and is now being transported to Tasmania for specialist care. The researcher had been working at the Casey research station, which is the nearest permanent Antarctic station to Australia's mainland. Rescue missions in Antarctica are challenging due to the perilous conditions and logistical obstacles they present.
