From the Field: Literacy classes for Afghan girls and women

In Afghanistan's Logar province, where girls' access to education has been suspended, over 1,000 Women and young girls are learning to read, write, and calculate for the first time through Literacy Classes supported by UNESCO. This is a significant development in one of the most conservative areas of the country, where most girls and women are illiterate. The classes have provided an opportunity for women like Bi Bi, a 32-year-old tailor, who was not allowed to attend school in the past but now has her husband's permission to learn and wishes to educate her own children, especially her daughters.
