Bill Richardson, former UN ambassador who worked to free detained Americans, dies at 75

Bill Richardson, a former Democratic governor of New Mexico and ambassador to the United Nations, has died at the age of 75. Richardson, who founded and led the Richardson Center for Global Engagement, was known for his efforts to secure the release of Americans detained by foreign adversaries. He served as governor of New Mexico for two terms and also worked as an envoy to the United Nations and energy secretary under President Bill Clinton. Richardson was involved in negotiating the release of hostages and American servicemen from countries such as North Korea, Iraq, Cuba, and Sudan. He was also a candidate for the 2008 Democratic nomination for president.
