The Delhi government earned over Rs 7,285 crore in the last year by selling more than 61 crore liquor bottles under its current Excise Policy. The previous excise policy, which involved private parties in retail liquor sales, was withdrawn after alleged irregularities and a CBI probe. The revenue collection from the new excise policy was Rs 5,487.58 crore in 2021-22. Since September 1, 2022, Delhi government agencies have taken over retail sale of liquor in the city, with over 600 retail outlets opened by four government undertakings.
