A group of high-ranking Military Officers in Gabon have announced on public television that they are overthrowing the current regime and annulling the results of national elections. This comes after President Ali Bongo Ondima was declared the winner of another term in office. The whereabouts of President Bongo are currently unknown. If successful, this will be the eighth coup in West and Central Africa since 2020. The military officers have dissolved all institutions of the republic and closed the country's borders. The recent elections were held without Election observers, and Bongo's main rival has accused him of fraud.
