Octopus Moms Use Hot Tubs to Make Their Eggs Hatch Faster

A group of scientists recently discovered thousands of female pearl octopuses huddled near an extinct underwater volcano, using it as a natural hot tub to protect their clutches of eggs. The eggs hatched faster in the warmer water, giving the baby octopuses an advantage by avoiding pre-hatch risks. This gathering of Octopus Moms is called an "octopus garden." Scientists believe these gatherings may be widespread in the deep sea. Octopuses have many unique characteristics, such as three hearts, blue blood, and the ability to change color and texture. Some octopuses have even built cities.
