London motorists should give way to ‘faster’ cyclists: Jeremy Vine

TV personality and cyclist Jeremy Vine has called for a ban on cars overtaking bicycles in big cities and for drivers to pull over and let cyclists pass if they are behind them. Vine believes that speed limits in cities have slowed to the point where cyclists are often faster than cars. Data from the London Assembly shows a decrease in average traffic speed in central London from 8.7 mph to 7.1 mph between 2008 and 2018. Vine, who cycles two miles each weekday, has previously praised a new cycle lane near his home for improving safety.
