After Maui officials named 388 people missing after wildfires, many called to say they’re OK

After Maui County released a list of 388 people unaccounted for following the deadly wildfire, more than 100 of them or their relatives came forward to say they are safe, according to the FBI. The agency is reviewing the information provided and working to remove the names from the list. At least two people on the list were confirmed to have perished in the fire. The list was a portion of a broader list of up to 1,100 people reported missing, which the FBI is working to validate. The search for remains among the ashes is ongoing.
