Haitians Shelter in Sports Center, Fresh Attacks Displace Thousands

In the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, hundreds of people have been displaced and are seeking shelter in tents at a sports center due to recent violence. Armed gangs have taken control of large parts of the capital, leading to a humanitarian crisis that has displaced around 200,000 people nationwide. Haiti's unelected prime minister, Ariel Henry, has called for international security assistance, and a motion is expected to go to a U.N. Security Council vote. The displaced residents, including vulnerable groups, are in urgent need of aid, with severe under-equipping of the police force. Many Haitians have joined civilian self-defense groups, but this has also sparked retaliation and further violence.
