Six school children and two adults were miraculously rescued after being stranded in a Broken Cable Car that was hanging 1,000 feet above a steep gorge in northern Pakistan. The 16-hour ordeal ended with a commando attached to a helicopter by rope grabbing one of the children and safely bringing them to the helicopter. Rescuers then constructed a makeshift chairlift to rescue the remaining passengers. Locally made cable cars are commonly used in the region but are often poorly maintained and prone to accidents. The authorities are now preparing to repair the broken cable car.
