Jodie Shannon Hughes, a woman accused of participating in the murder of a farm worker, gave evidence in her own defense in the High Court at New Plymouth. Hughes claimed that the victim was conscious and tried to stop the car while he was chained to the back of it before being beaten and dragged to his death. She stated that she did not see the victim being chained to the car but witnessed him being pulled toward it. Hughes also described her difficult childhood, mental health issues, and drug addiction.
