A stretch of the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway in India is showing signs of land subsidence with cracks appearing on it. The affected area, located between Chamoli and Nandprayag, is sinking towards the Alaknanda River. Following the Kedarnath disaster in 2013, the government undertook a road stabilization project which stopped the subsidence. However, heavy rain this monsoon has caused fresh landslides and reactivated old ones, leading to disruptions in traffic. Engineers are currently working to repair the affected area by filling the cracks with soil and stones.
