According to the United Nations, 62 humanitarian Aid Workers have died this year, with another 84 wounded and 34 kidnapped. South Sudan has been the most dangerous place for aid workers, followed by Sudan. Other countries where aid workers have died include the Central African Republic, Mali, Somalia, Ukraine, and Yemen. The majority of those killed are local aid workers. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the bombing of the U.N. headquarters in Baghdad, which killed 22 people, including the U.N. high commissioner for human rights. The United Nations is currently working to assist nearly 250 million people in crisis areas.
