Northland man Raymond Phillimore jailed for murdering his partner, Gaelene Bright

Raymond Charles Phillimore has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum period of 13 years for the murder of his partner, Gaelene Bright. Bright, 69, was found with three gunshot wounds in Waipoua Forest. Her body was covered in ferns, fronds, and leaves. Phillimore confessed to the killing and told police he had shot her until she stopped. The court heard statements from Bright's family describing Phillimore as arrogant, self-centered, toxic, and disrespectful. The couple's relationship had deteriorated after returning from the Wellington protests with differing views. Phillimore pleaded guilty to murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.
