The Delhi High Court has asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to respond to appeals made by ex-coal secretary H.C. Gupta and former public servant K.S. Kropha challenging their conviction and three-year jail sentences in a case related to irregularities in coal block allocation in Chhattisgarh. The trial court had convicted and sentenced Gupta, Kropha, and former senior public servant K.C. Samria in July. They were granted bail and have now appealed their convictions. The high court will hear their appeals in due course. The trial court also convicted and sentenced ex-Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Darda, his son Devender, and businessman Manoj Kumar Jayaswal in the case.
