Knights Templar graves discovered at Coventry village church

Historian Edward Spencer Dyas has discovered eight graves belonging to members of the Knights Templar at St Mary's Church in Enville, Staffordshire. The medieval tombs, including three previously found in 2021, are believed to be one of the most nationally important Templar churches in England due to its links to William Marshal, the 1st Earl of Pembroke. The Knights Templar were a wealthy and powerful military order in the Middle Ages, formed in 1119, and tasked with protecting pilgrims to Jerusalem before being disbanded in 1308/9. The reason for the presence of Templar graves at Enville remains unknown.
