Activist Qiao Xinxin arrested for subversion in China after Laos ‘disappearance’

Chinese Activist Qiao Xinxin, also known as Yang Zewei, has been arrested in China on charges of "subversion of state power" after calling for an end to internet censorship. Qiao had been living in Laos and was detained on or around May 31. He is currently being held in a juvenile detention center in Hengyang city. Qiao's arrest comes amid growing international concern about China's cross-border law enforcement operations. Human rights lawyer Lu Siwei, who was also detained in Laos, is expected to face a similar fate. The arrests have sparked international criticism.
