Hay River, N.W.T. ordered to evacuate due to wildfire, a day after taking in Fort Smith evacuees

Residents of Hay River, N.W.T. are being ordered to evacuate for the second time this summer due to a nearby wildfire, while also hosting evacuees from Fort Smith. K’atl’odeeche First Nation and Enterprise residents are also ordered to leave. The N.W.T. Fire and the Town of Hay River are directing evacuees to travel to Alberta. The wildfire is near Kakisa and Enterprise and is expected to reach Highway 1. This is the worst wildfire season on record for the territory. The federal government has promised assistance, and the Canadian Forces are mobilizing. Fuel services are available in Alberta for those who need it.
