Montreal’s Pride parade draws record numbers in day of celebration

Montreal's Pride parade, organized by Fierté Montréal, drew a record number of participants with around 15,500 people marching representing 192 different groups and organizations. The parade, which was cancelled last year due to a shortage of security volunteers, saw increased mobilization this year with the support of 208 staff members and 152 volunteers. The event received $250,000 in federal funding for safety measures. The parade aimed to commemorate LGBTQ community triumphs while highlighting ongoing injustices. Additionally, five Montreal-based organizations, including Fierté Montréal, will receive $1.1 million in federal funding to support their work within the LGBTQ community.
