Niger: Army delegation thanks Guinean government for ‘support’ after coup

A Delegation from Niger's junta visited Guinea to seek reinforced support from the Guinean military authorities, as Niger's military regime faces the threat of West African intervention. General Moussa Salaou Barmou led the delegation and expressed gratitude to the Guinean authorities for their support during Niger's difficult times. Guinea had previously expressed disagreement with the sanctions recommended by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) against Niger, including military intervention. ECOWAS leaders favored a diplomatic resolution to the crisis but ordered the deployment of a "standby force" as a last resort.
