Transport Canada orders Boeing 737 jet operators to limit use of anti-icing system amid safety concerns

Transport Canada has ordered airlines operating Boeing 737 MAX jets in Canada to limit the use of the engine anti-icing system due to safety concerns. The directive comes after the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) in the U.S. released a similar directive, stating that using the system in dry air for more than five minutes can cause severe engine inlet cowl damage. The damage could potentially cause parts of the engine cover to come loose, posing a hazard to passengers. The directive, which takes effect on August 25, applies to the 108 737 MAX jets in Canada, 40 of which are operated by Air Canada.
