Abducted U.N. workers free after 18 months in Yemen

Five United Nations staff members who were kidnapped in Yemen 18 months ago have been released. The U.N. Secretary General's deputy spokesman confirmed their release, stating that they are in good health. The kidnappers' identity and the details of their release were not disclosed. The abduction took place in southern Yemen's Abyan province, which is known to be an active area for al-Qaida. Kidnappings are common in Yemen, which has been embroiled in a war since 2014. Al-Qaida has taken advantage of the conflict to strengthen its presence in the country.
