The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a Warning about a batch of contaminated common cold Syrup manufactured by an Indian company. The syrup, branded Cold Out, was found in Iraq and was manufactured by Fourrts (India) Laboratories for Dabilife Pharma. The syrup contained higher than acceptable levels of contaminants diethylene and ethylene glycol, which can be fatal and lead to acute kidney failure in children. This is the latest in a series of warnings by the WHO about substandard medicines from India, with similar contaminated cough syrups causing the deaths of 70 children in Gambia last year.
