Rwanda genocide suspect Felicien Kabuga should be considered for release: UN Judges

UN appeals judges have ruled that Félicien Kabuga, the alleged financier of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, should be urgently released after being declared unfit to stand trial. The judges stated that a special war crimes tribunal made an error of law by deciding to try Kabuga via a simplified procedure despite his poor health. Kabuga, who is accused of founding and financing a radio station that incited hatred and motivated the killers responsible for the massacre of 800,000 people, was arrested in Paris in 2020 after being on the run for two decades.
