First Person: Rising above floods in Viet Nam

Residents in the city of Huế in central Vietnam have learned to adapt and mitigate the effects of devastating flooding caused by tropical storms. The FloodAdaptVN program, coordinated by the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security, has helped the Community in preparing for floods. Local authorities and a team for storm and flood prevention distribute life-saving equipment and help residents relocate to higher buildings. The community is now more aware of flood risks and evacuates when warned. By taking proactive measures, such as building elevated houses, the community has been able to minimize the impact of flooding and prevent loss of life.
