Prison guards at Myanmar's Thayarwady Prison have reportedly beaten 31 inmates for commemorating Martyrs' Day, with four of them being treated for their injuries. The prisoners held a saluting ceremony and women inmates wore black ribbons on July 19, the day that marks the assassination of nine Myanmar independence leaders in 1947. Than Toe Aung, who organized the prison ceremonies, was hospitalized along with three others. There have been a series of brutal beatings and killings by Prison Guards since a jailbreak three months ago. Over 24,000 people have been arrested since the February 2021 coup.
