US Backs Sending Kenyan Police to Haiti Despite Warnings of Abuse

The US government is considering sending 1,000 Kenyan Police officers to Haiti to address gang violence, despite warnings of abuse by Kenyan police. Rights watchdogs have accused Kenyan police of killings and torture, including shooting civilians during Kenya's COVID-19 curfew. The US, as the current president of the UN Security Council, is preparing to present a resolution authorizing the mission. Kenyan police have little overseas experience and do not speak French, which is used in Haiti. Some organizations are concerned about Kenya exporting abusive police officers and want them to remain at home.
