NHS goes private in biggest expansion of sector since Blair

Rishi Sunak, the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, is planning the largest expansion of Private Sector involvement in the National Health Service (NHS) since the Blair era. The aim is to address the record backlogs in the NHS and reduce waiting lists. Private sector firms will be asked to operate community diagnostic centers and identify spare capacity in order to treat patients more quickly. The plans echo previous efforts to use the private sector in the NHS, but the Labour Party has accused the Tories of acting too slowly. The Elective Recovery Taskforce will publish its recommendations on Friday.
