Automakers promote advanced tech to compete in China — the world’s top EV market

Global electric vehicle makers are focusing on advanced technology to compete in China, the world's largest EV Market. China captured 59% of global EV sales in 2022, with domestic brands holding 81% of the market. Chinese automakers have an advantage in developing and implementing advanced assisted driving systems. However, global players like BMW and Volkswagen are stepping up their efforts, with BMW China planning to roll out hands-free autonomous driving features by the end of 2023. Volkswagen is investing $700 million in Chinese EV maker Xpeng and will co-develop two new EVs for the Chinese market.
