20 dead as record rainfall inundates China’s capital city

Record rainfall from Typhoon Doksuri has caused severe flooding in Beijing, China, leaving 20 people dead and causing widespread damage. The Beijing Meteorological Bureau reported that 29.3 inches of rain fell in the capital region, the highest ever recorded. Around 1 million residents were evacuated, and social media videos showed debris and mud covering the streets. The storm also caused a train carrying 900 people to become stuck, forcing passengers to walk for hours to reach safety. President Xi Jinping called for efforts to rescue those affected, and the agriculture ministry pledged $60 million in flood relief funding.
