Warmest July on record for parts of Australia

The national average temperature in Australia last month was 1.19 degrees above the average for 1961-1990, making it the country's ninth-Warmest July since 1910. Tasmania experienced its warmest July ever recorded, with temperatures 2.02 degrees above the long-term average. Sydney, along with parts of Victoria and NSW, also had their highest ever temperatures in July. The unusual dominance of high pressure over Australia suppressed cold fronts and limited rainfall across the southern half of the country, with rainfall in the Murray-Darling Basin being 40% below average. Mallacoota in Victoria had its driest July on record.
