Uganda: 30th anniversary celebration of the coronation of King of Buganda

Thousands of Ugandans gathered at the palace grounds of the Buganda kingdom to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of King Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II's coronation. The crowd, dressed in traditional attire, danced and prayed for the king's good health. The king, known as the Kabaka, has a ceremonial role but has had conflicts with President Yoweri Museveni's government in the past, leading to the closure of a Buganda-run radio station and riots in Kampala. Buganda's support played a significant role in Museveni's rise to power in 1986. Former president Milton Obote had previously outlawed tribal kingdoms and exiled the Kabaka.
