Senegalese opponent vows hunger strike as lawyers lambast arrest

Senegalese opposition politician Ousmane Sonko has started a hunger strike after being arrested on new charges, while his lawyers criticize his arrest. Sonko, a vocal critic of President Macky Sall, claims the charges are aimed at preventing him from participating in politics. The new charges against Sonko include calling for insurrection, undermining state security, criminal association with a terrorist body, and theft. Another prominent Senegalese journalist and government critic, Pape Ale Niang, has also been arrested and started a hunger strike.
