Plastic pollution in Uganda remains a significant problem despite multiple bans on Plastic use since 2009. Over half of all Plastic Waste in the country ends up in land, waterways, lakes, or parks. Only 1% of plastic is recycled in Uganda, leading to a lack of solutions for plastic waste. Shamim Naluyima, the founder of Edu-Plastics, aims to tackle this issue by recycling plastic bags into school bags and other learning materials. The company hopes to raise awareness among children and their parents about the importance of reducing plastic waste.
