Wildfire fighter dies in B.C. while on frontlines of largest fire in province’s history

A Wildfire fighter in British Columbia (B.C.) has died while responding to the Donnie Creek Wildfire, making it the second firefighter death during the 2023 wildfire season in the province. The 25-year-old firefighter from Ontario was working in a remote area 150 km north of Fort St. John when his utility terrain vehicle rolled over a sharp drop in a gravel road. The Donnie Creek wildfire, the largest in B.C. history, has been burning since May 12 and covers an area larger than Prince Edward Island. The death is the fourth among wildfire fighters in Canada this year.
