Starting on August 1, Minnesotans will be able to legally possess and grow their own marijuana for Recreational purposes, subject to limits put in place while the state sets up a Legal cannabis industry. Although the state projects that most legal retail sales won't begin until early 2025, at least one Minnesota tribe plans to allow sales right away. The law aims to address social equity concerns, with priority given to applicants from low-income areas affected by marijuana's illegality and those with expunged convictions. It will also be illegal to smoke or vape cannabis where tobacco smoking is prohibited, and federal law still prohibits cannabis consumers from owning firearms or ammunition.
