Fragments believed to be from Ludwig van Beethoven's skull have been returned to Vienna after being kept in a locked drawer in Carmichael, California for 30 years. The journey of the fragments began when Paul Kaufmann discovered them in a box belonging to his late mother. Kaufmann spent the next three decades researching their origins and found a connection to his great-great-uncle, a Viennese physician. The fragments were returned to the Medical University of Vienna as a donation and are now known as the "Seligmann Fragments." They will undergo further inspection at a DNA lab.
